    The Course

Teams will alternate running a scenic, roughly 3.2-mile loop on the east side of the park. This horseshoe-shaped route is perfect for spectators, allowing you to cheer on your runners at the start and halfway points of each loop (see map below). Together, you'll complete the full 26.2-mile marathon distance. 4-person and 2-person teams are available, as well as a solo option.

The start and finish line will be near the Son's of Rest Pavilion at the east end of the park. Restrooms will be available on site. Feel free to bring a pop up tent and chairs for your team's "home base" during the race. Each team will receive two gallon bottles of water to fill their own bottles and pre-packaged snacks will be available as well. Awards will go three deep in each category.

Four-person teams must choose the type that best fits their group. Options include:

  • A Race Where Everyone Has a Shot at the Win

Forget the usual “everyone starts together” race. This is a chase, a hunt, and a finish-line showdown all rolled into one. We’re reviving a legendary St. Louis race and bringing it into the 21st century!

Here’s the kicker: your race doesn’t start when the gun goes off… it starts when your turn comes. Using official, calculated age-grading tables, we’ll set your start time based on your age and gender. But no matter when you start, everyone has the same goal: — chase down anyone in front of them before the finish line!

  • How It Works

Age grading is a method of leveling the playing field by adjusting for age, gender, and race distance. It’s based on standardized, published data that allows fair comparison across different ages and genders. In this event, that science determines your head start — or lack thereof.

Runners will start in groups according to age and gender, and will be released approximately every 30 seconds.  Your exact start time and more specific instructions will be emailed to you during race week.

View Age / Gender Start Time Chart HERE

    Why It’s Fun

    • Level playing field: Every age group has a genuine shot at the overall win.

    • Dynamic race atmosphere: You’ll be both the hunter and the hunted.

    • Great for spectators: The finish line will be a great mix of ages and speeds converging.

    Details

    • 10K starting and finishing from Frontier Park in Old Town St. Charles, utilizing roads and some sections of the Katy Trail. The course is mostly flat.

    • Awards will go to overall finishers — not just by age group — because in this format, everyone is in the same race.  Top 75 overall finishers will receive an award.

    • All participants will receive a long-sleeve event shirt, finisher’s medal, and lots of finish line fun!

  • Do you live and run with an attitude that risking a lump of coal in your stocking is the cost of adventure? Rather throw back a finish line brew from right here in The Lou while supporting your local community? Don't want to break the holiday gift fund on race registration?

Come naughty, come nice to the NEW Bad Santa 5K on December 7th! This timed run through Carondelet Park celebrates the Holiday Season the right way – with a party, free beer, custom race tee and much more.

The course will feature stunning winter scenes with plenty of lakes, woods and railroad tracks to explore – perfect for seasoned and casual runners alike. Enjoy post-race beer from Urban Chestnut beer, as well as snacks and your usual post-race antics! After the race, warm-up by joining us at Urban Chestnut's Bierhall for the Bad Santa afterparty.

  • The course details will be posted here once finalized, but will take place in Carondelet Park, starting and finishing near the Boathouse.

We’re also collecting new and gently used winter coats, hats and gloves to benefit the Kurt Warner First Things First Foundation and Warners’ Warm-Up Coat Drive in keeping our neighbors warm during the cold winter months. Bring yours on race day, and Operation Food Search will ensure the coats get to those who need them!
